The Arms of The Venerable Howell Crawford Sasser, Sr. MA, MTh (oxon).

The Arms as granted are made up of elements that represent important events and accomplishments in the armiger's life. The oak tree is symbolic of the ancient beginnings of his family in America having come to Virginia and Maryland in the 17th century. The scallop shells stand for the armiger's date of birth on 25th July the Feast of St. James and for the fact that he was Archdeacon of a part of the Diocese in Europe which covered the Shrine of St. James of Campostella.

The rock, the Rock of Gibraltar, in the crest is symbolic of his service as Archdeacon of Gibraltar. The Sphinx indicates a 30 year career as an Army Intelligence officer. The cross reminds the observer that the armiger is a Christian who gave part of his time to a ministry of support to Army Chaplains. The Cross of Malta, pendant below the shield, is to signify his membership as a Serving Brother in the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem.

The armiger retired from active US Army service in the rank of Colonel.
