| These arms were
designed to show the family's relationship as cadets of the Drakes
of Ashe, Musbury, Devon whose ancient arms were Argent a wyvern
Gules. The motto answers theirs of Aquila non captat muscas. |
The armiger has
published research indicating that the Drakes of Ashe were originally
from Warwickshire and ultimately descended in the male line from
Harold, feudal Lord of Ewias Harold, Herefordshire. Harold was the son
of Ralph, preconquest Earl of Hereford, and grandson of Drogo, Count
of Mantes, who was descended in the male line from the ancient Counts
of Amiens and Vexin.
