These arms were originally granted by King
Rudolf (Habsburg) of Hungary and Austria at Pressburg (modern
Bratislava) on 13 April 1578 to Andreas and John Redey (Rhedey) and to
their descendants, as an achievement for a specific military deed to
the Crown, and are described in Der Adel von Ungarn–Magyarorszag
riegesszites – Redey/Rhedey. The armiger, and his descendants in
perpetuity, was granted use of the arms, with due and proper
differences according to the Laws of Arms, by the head of the Rhedey
von Kis-Rhede line of the Saros County of the Genus Aba of the former
Kingdom of Hungary. A mullet Argent (Silver Star) representing the
armiger’s military rank of Brigadier General, is added to the eagle
wing sinister of the crest and the crescent moon Argent on the eagle
wing dexter remains as a symbol of the armiger’s maternal family line
of Moon. The motto adopted by the armiger translates as “Courage with
Honor.”
The armiger was born in Chicago, Illinois
on 14 November 1944. He graduated from Northwestern University (BA,
History, 1965), Northwestern University School of Law (JD 1968) and
Norwich University (MA, Diplomacy, 2004). The armiger served for 35
years in the United States Army to the rank of Brigadier General. His
military service included multiple command assignments from Special
Forces Detachment Commander to Theatre Component Commander
(1969-2004). He concluded his career as the Commanding General,
Special Forces Command Korea, United Nations Special Operations
Component Commander and Deputy Commander, Combined Unconventional
Warfare Task Force (2000-2003) His military awards include:
Distinguished Service Medal (2004), Defense Superior Service Medal
(2003), Joint Commendation Medal (2001), Presidential Unit Citation
(Republic of Korea, 2002), Joint Unit Commendation Medal (2001),
Meritorious Service Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters (1997, 1999), Army
Commendation Medal with 6 oak leaf clusters (1981, 1984, 1985, 1991,
1993, 1994, 1998), Master Parachute Badge (2003), Korea Master
Parachute Badge (2000), Special Forces Tab (1985), Pathfinder Badge
(1983), Aircrew Badge (1981), Underwater Operations Badge (1975),
Canadian Parachute Badge (1975) and Ranger Tab (1971).
His nobiliary associations include: Sovereign Military Order of the
Temple of Jerusalem, Knight Grand Croix (Justice), Grand Chancellor
General (Emeritus); Royal Order of the Eagle of Georgia and Seamless
Tunic of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Knight Grand Croix; Military and
Hospitaler Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem, Knight Grand Croix
(Justice), Grand Commander, Grand Priory of Carpathia; Order of St.
Constantine the Great, Knight; Order of the Red Branch (Ireland),
Companion; Order of Cheon-Su National Security Merit (Republic of
Korea), Third Class.
He is currently senior military advisor to the Ministry of Defense of
the Republic of Georgia and a full professor of National Security
Studies at American Military University, Manassas, Virginia, USA. |
