The Arms of Gordon Archibald Douglas Francis Rintoul

The Rintoul Coat of Arms “Argent three eagles displayed Gules “ appears to have been adopted informally and has never been legally registered though used by family members over a considerable period of time. To differentiate the blazon has been changed to Argent an Eagle displayed Gules.

The choice of charges which are of particular significance to the Armiger are - on a chief Azure a chained Portcullis Or -which symbolizes his career in H.M. Customs and Excise whilst the two escallops Argent, ribbed Vert - represent his services to the corporate body known as the Military and Hospitaller Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem.

Rintoul is a place name in the modern Gaelic form of the earlier Goidelic - Rinn an Tsabhail. Goidelic Gaelic was spoken throughout Scotland to the close of the ninth century.

The Old Lands of Rintoul are situated in the Parish of Orwell, Kinross-shire adjacent to Loch Leven.
The Mullet Sable alludes to Lochleven Castle having been held by the Douglas, Earls of Morton.
